Neighborhood Spotlight: Tahquitz River Estates

Where to stay in Palm Springs? Given all the fantastic neighborhoods in this incredible town, it’s a difficult decision. Whether your tendencies lean toward something fun and artsy or you’re searching for something more sleek and refined, we’re confident you’ll find it in Tahquitz River Estates. Initially coined Palos Verdes Estates, given all the Spanish-revival architecture, the neighborhood transformed when developers Paul Trousdale and Pearl McCallum began sprinkling mid-century style homes in the 1940s.

Today, this eclectic community boasts everything from quaint bungalows to lavish estates, each a sight to behold. Given its proximity to downtown, restaurants, and attractions, it’s no surprise that Tahquitz River Estates is one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Palm Springs. Here are a few things to know if you're considering a visit!

Where is Tahquitz River Estates

Just a quick hop south of central Palm Springs, Tahquitz River Estates is one of the city's largest neighborhoods. With South Palm Canyon Drive to the west and South Camino Real to the east, this beautiful community straddles the Tahquitz Creek Channel, offering plenty to explore!

Where to Stay in Tahquitz River Estates

Finding a place to stay in Tahquitz River Estates is easy if you know where to go! ACME House Company offers a wide range of gorgeous retreats ready to welcome you in. Here are just a few worth consideration:

Surrounded by Palms

Surrounded by Palms checks every vacation box, particularly if you’re looking for something decidedly upscale. It’s all about the details, noted in the colorful furnishings and one-of-a-kind artwork flanking nearly every room. The casita is just as charming, and the backyard offers complete privacy. When you’re not lounging by the pool for hours on end, gather around the fireplace, dine under the stars, or just take in the gorgeous mountain views. Surrounded by Palms offers 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, accommodating up to 8 guests.

The Clever Cactus

More than a sprawling retreat, The Clever Cactus is a beautiful display of Southern California architecture. The main house features two primary suites with an attached casita to double the fun. Sunny, bright, and brimming with character, each room is exquisitely designed. Generous rooms offer plenty of places to gather, while natural light beams through each room, several of which blend seamlessly into the outdoors. The Clever Cactus offers 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, accommodating up to 6 guests.

Three Amigos Ranch

You’ll have no problem reconnecting with loved ones in the beautifully remodeled Three Amigos Ranch. Both the main house and guest casita offer pleasant surprises at every turn, but the party will more than likely end up outdoors. With a large private pool yard, heated inground pool, spa, firepit, and outdoor dining pavilion, the good life is suddenly so accessible. Indoors, the chef's kitchen and fireside lounge area offer additional gathering places. Three Amigos Ranch offers 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, accommodating up to 8 guests.

Zen Dreams

If your vacation dreams include staying in a serene retreat boasting pristine interiors and exteriors, you just found it in Zen Dreams. Spanish-inspired architecture merges with modern furnishings in the best possible way. Magnificent tile work, contemporary art, and detailed woodwork make this home unique, while French doors open to incredible mountain views, an oversized pool, and covered patio areas designed for lingering. Zen Dreams offers 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, accommodating up to 6 guests.

Boo Boo’s Hideaway

Looking for a quiet sanctuary? Maybe you should consider Boo Boo’s Hideaway. Beyond offering complete privacy, this stunning vacation home is a feast for the eyes. Professionally designed with meticulous attention to detail, every room offers the perfect blend of style and comfort that feels both luxurious and welcoming. When you’re not hanging out in the great room, you’ll be chilling in the covered outdoor living room by the pool. Boo Boo’s Hideaway offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, accommodating up to 6 guests.

Things to Do in the Area

Surrounded by so much style and comfort, you may never want to leave your vacation rental, but we’d encourage you to get out and see the sights. Given the location of this beautiful neighborhood, you’ll be close to some of Palm Springs's most popular attractions. Here are some fun things to do just minutes away!

Head Downtown

The western end of Tahquitz River Estates falls on South Palm Canyon Drive. Lucky for you, because this is your gateway to all things that make the area so unique. Peppered with shops, restaurants, and galleries, you could easily spend hours browsing for treasures on Palm Canyon Drive!

Hit the Trails

If hiking’s your thing, you’ll be glad to know that Tahquitz River Estates lies just a few miles south of North Lykken Trail. Take advantage of the cooler morning temps and start early on this 4.3-mile out-and-back trail. The views at the end are totally worth it!

Check out the Attractions

While you can take your pick from must-see sights, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway ranks at the top of the list. Nowhere else will you see views like this, and once at the top, you can hit a few trails, snap a few pics, and breathe in that fresh mountain air! The Palm Springs Art Museum is less than two miles away and you could seriously spend some time here. Depending on where you’re staying, you might even be able to walk to the Moorten Botanical Garden!

Eateries Nearby

Although you’ll find plenty of dining establishments throughout Palm Springs, the beauty of staying in Tahquitz River Estates is that you’ll have access to some of the best restaurants in the area. Here are a few notable mentions, but be mindful that they book out early, so reserve a table beforehand!

Bar Cecil: for delicious seafood, dry-aged beef, and an atmosphere that’s hard to beat. While you’ll find beautifully prepared traditional American fare, take it up a notch with the caviar-topped deviled eggs and a fifty-dollar martini!

Melvyn’s: for traditional American cuisine, but elevated in all the best possible ways. Although you’ll find burgers, chicken, and fish, the steak is the real star here. It’s probably why A-listers frequented it back in the day, and it still remains a local favorite.

Mr. Lyons: for steaks smooth as butter, a delightful cocktail menu, and a swanky night out you won’t soon forget. Although this classic steakhouse offers several different dining areas, we suggest the velvet velvet green booths in the grand salon.

Gigi’s: for an incredibly diverse menu featuring all your favorites. Salmon, ravioli, lamb chops, and Mediterranean sea bass all grace the menu, each thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.

So what are you waiting for? All that’s left to do is take your pick from our gorgeous vacation rentals, pack your bags, and head to Tahquitz River Estates in sunny Palm Springs!
