The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens

Come travel the world's deserts  no passport required!

On your visit, you can journey through the African savanna where black rhino, springbok, and waterbuck roam together. Across the way, you'll see graceful giraffe graze alongside greater kudu and ostrich on the sprawling plains set against a serene mountain backdrop.

Then, explore the Australian Adventures habitat, where wallabies hop alongside you and colorful budgies fly overhead. As you stroll through this immersive habitat, you’ll also meet laughing kookaburra, emu, and other Australian animals.

In Wild Americas, you'll encounter desert animals from North and South America and get a unique perspective on the wildlife that makes up our own unique ecosystem, from mountain lions and Mexican wolves to badgers and bobcats.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens was named one of the “10 Best Zoos in America” by Conde Nast Traveler and USA Today and is a top family pick on TripAdvisor.

EXCITING EXPERIENCES: Get up close and personal with the tallest creature on earth! Feeding a giraffe is an unforgettable opportunity, offering guests a chance to interact one-on-one with these majestic beings. You can also meet a black rhino up close during  an exclusive, semi-private Rhino Encounter. Every encounter will vary, but participants may have the opportunity to feed a rhino, watch a rhino training session, or brush a rhino.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES ANIMAL CARE: Visit the Tennity Wildlife Hospital & Conservation Center for an up-close and behind-the-scenes look at the world-class care each animal at the Zoo receives.

Every visit to The Living Desert is a step towards wildlife preservation! As a proud member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), The Living Desert is deeply committed to conserving species, both locally in Southern California and globally. With active participation in over 80 field conservation projects across 12 countries, alongside its AZA Species Survival Plan® (SSP) Programs and Saving Animals From Extinction initiatives (SAFE), The Living Desert has earned membership in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
